Location
Albuquerque City Hall, 7th Floor

A transgender person, who is a guardian angel that protects the U.S. and Mexico border where immigrant people cross.
Crossing the border can be life risking and many immigrant people rely on the Virgen de Guadalupe for hope and trust to have safe travels. La Virgen de Guadalupe is a catholic religious symbol that many people pray to when seeking miracles, hope, and faith. I created a version of the iconic image of the Virgen de Guadalupe into a transgender individual to honor the trans, immigrant people who are also migrating out of survival and in search of safety. Trans immigrant people are even more likely to be at risk of dangerous situations while crossing the border.
Nuestra Tierra Trans is a lithography print created at the Tamarind Institute during the Tipping Point Residency. A project in collaboration with the City of Albuquerque that worked with five New Mexico artists to produce prints in partnerships with Tamarind student printers. The art work is part of Albuquerque Public Art Collection, Tamarind formal Archive, and housed at the University of New Mexico Art Museum.
