Gael Luna
A multimedia artist utilizing digital art, design,
and photography to convey stories of BIPOC,
LGBTQ+, and immigrant communities.
Gael Luna ( they/them) is a trans, queer, immigrant artist and community organizer in Albuquerque’s South Valley. Originally from Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, they migrated to the U.S. at seven years old.
They received a bachelor’s degree in Media Arts and Spanish from New Mexico Highlands University in 2014. Their senior year, they were awarded the Seabury Fellowship and created their body of work, Joteria Undocumented. They got to display their work in over 10 cities in New Mexico, Colorado and Utah. Including being a featured artist in Mujeres Activas en Letras y Cambios Social (MALCS) and Inaugurations, Fwd: Museum Journal.
They have since collaborated with community based organizations, educational entities, galleries, and government agencies, including Organizers in the Land of Enchantment, Casa de Salud, Young Women Unites (now known as Bold Futures), and many others.
In 2021, they received the Tipping Point Residency with the City of Albuquerque and Tamarind Institute. Most recently they were awarded the 2024 UETF Artist Resiliency Residency from the City of Albuquerque and Residency for Art & Social Justice from Harwood Art Center.
